As the end of the school year is quickly approaching with the final trimester, many Sage Creek students are experiencing burnout and loss of motivation. With this frequent academic exhaustion, students have been going on strike for SCHS to only have two trimesters instead of the current three. Doing so also calls for a sooner summer break.

The strike began on March 11, when the movement also took on the name “Pity the Fool Who Doesn’t Strike.”

Freshman Chloe Barrett specifically expressed her feelings saying, “I put in so much effort and hard work to get through tri 1 and 2; now the 3rd one’s here and I don’t know how I’m going to pull through.” 

The high school has a year-long trimester schedule that adds up to three finals, whereas other schools have two semesters with finals for each one.  

“I’ve had several students stand up in the middle of class, shout ‘pity the fool who created trimesters’ and just walk out,” said math teacher Mrs. Allison Stock. “Certain students have been going on strike by refusing to complete assignments and even protesting outside of the school. I personally don’t understand, they’re called trimesters, why would we only have two?”

“Sage ridiculously hypnotizes students to follow their perfect standards and it makes me feel like a rat constantly spinning on their wheel,” said junior student protestor Asher Frankel.

Several students, almost as passionate as Frankel, feel that the high school has pushed teenagers past their breaking point. 

“It doesn’t make sense why any student wouldn’t join the strike,” Frankel said.  “SCHS has more intense exams compared to other schools. Everyone knows that finals are very stressful and they take a lot of energy out of students. Why have we not already minimized the number of finals we give to students?

The board or whoever controls it needs to meet our demands because we’re not going to give in until we only have two trimesters.” 

Many students have expressed their need for trimester three to be cut short so that they can head straight into the laid-back beach chair experiences of summer instead of those well-known desk chains at school.
