Everyone loves music, and the Grammy Awards are the perfect way to recap each year’s best songs, albums and performances. The 2024 Grammys started in Hollywood on Feb. 4 at 5 p.m.. with Trevor Noah hosting once more after Dua Lipa’s performance of “Dance The Night Away.”

Dozens of artists were nominated for the Grammys, including SZA, Billie Eilish, Paramore and Taylor Swift.

SZA won three Grammys this year, including Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best R&B Song for “Snooze” and Album “SOS.” She debuted her new song “Saturn” at the Grammys for a Mastercard commercial. The song is expected to be released in her new album, Lana.

Skylar Bohannan is an 8th grader at Calavera Middle School and loves listening to SZA. She has plenty of SZA merchandise like T-shirts, a tote bag and posters. Bohannan said, “I was very happy to see SZA win her awards and I jumped up in excitement because of it. I loved SZA’s new song ‘Saturn’, and I can’t wait to hear it in Lana!”

Taylor Swift won two awards this year, including Album of the Year for her fourth consecutive year while also announcing a new album coming April 19 called “The Tortured Poets Department.”

Celine Dion announced the Album of the Year award and was happy to be there after a three-year absence. She was recently diagnosed with “stiff-person syndrome,” a rare disease that can affect the central nervous system.

Many performances took place during the Grammys, including those by Travis Scott, Billie Eilish, Joni Mitchell and Olivia Rodrigo.

“I liked Stevie Wonder’s performance for the ‘in memoriam’ segment of the Grammys,” said Jeff Simon, an algebra teacher at Sage Creek. Simon’s favorite winner was Jon Bon Jovi, but he also likes Julian Marley.

The Grammy’s also held several confusing moments for watchers of the broadcast.

“I heard that a guy got arrested at the Grammys,” said Blake Akatiff, a freshman at Sage Creek.

Killer Mike won three awards at the Grammys to then get involved in a physical altercation hours later.

Akatiff enjoyed Travis Scott’s performance the most when he played three of his favorite songs and also had a favorite winner. “My favorite winner was J. Cole for his performance of ‘All My Life.’”

Overall, artists like Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and Victoria Monét left the Grammys this year with a smile on their faces and some with a trophy in their hand. Many viewers at home enjoyed seeing the annual Grammys show with their families and friends.
