The first dance of the 2017-18 school year was held this past Saturday at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido from 7-10 pm.

The Starry Night formal was based off of the famous artwork created by Vincent Van Gogh. There was lots of entertainment for the students, including caricatures, a photo booth, and many snacks for everyone to enjoy.

After the dance, freshman Madison Blankenhorn reflected on her first high school dance.

“[Fall Formal] was a lot of fun. [ASB] organized it really well with everyone cleaning up all the time. I also thought they played good music and had a lot of space to dance but also to relax,” Blankenhorn said.

Freshman Elizabeth Marquiss enjoyed the food and venue.

“I thought the event was great, it was a fun time! The venue was nice and my favorite part was probably the chocolate fountain. It worked really well and the snacks never ran out,” Marquiss said.

Sophomore McKenzie Bruno compared last year’s formal with this one.

“This year’s formal was more fun because there was a lot more of my friends that went and it was cool to see the new freshman,” Bruno said.

ASB’s Starry Night formal was the first dance of three. The next dance, Hoopcoming, will be in the winter trimester.

The decorations at Formal were absolutely stunning! I loved how much space we had both inside and outside whether you wanted to dance or not. My only two complaints were that 1) the twitter photo sharing screens were not attractive at all, showing the list of picture URLs most of the time and the pictures only showing up intermittently (which was a bit tacky, and 2) the DJ was not that great. He wasn’t terrible, but maybe I’m just spoiled because the DJ at prom last year was so good. Well, we’ll see how the next one goes.
Overall, a well-organized and very fun night for both couples and big groups of friends!

I thought that the fall formal was an overall good dance, but they needed to broaden the song list more. They had mostly slow songs during the dance, and I understand that it was supposed to be a dance with a date, but I feel like they should have done more single person songs, or just hype songs, like in hoopcoming., since I’m accepting the fact that I’m never getting a girlfreind. Anyways, I enjoyed the chocolate fountain the most, as I just ate my despair away. Good dance though.
