Its a new year for gaming, and one that’s going to be packed full of fun. In no particular order, here are the games I am most excited for. Click on the title of the game to go to their website.

Ubisoft

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands

Filled with guns, drones and more guns, Ghost Recon is the next tactical shooter coming out on March 7. You and your high-tech team of soldiers are sent to a drug-filled Bolivia where you must slowly take down the cartel. You choose whether your targets live or die, how you will capture the area, and which tactic you will choose. Whether you go in guns blazing or snipe from a distance, I have high hopes for this game. The only thing I’m scared of is that Ubisoft might pull another Division. What I mean by that is that I hope that this game comes out with the same graphics from the trailers and the game isn’t filled with dozens of glitches.

Rockstar Games

Red Dead Redemption 2

We are taken back to the wild west with John Marston with a new game set to come out during late 2017. Not much is known about the game and where the story is going. Many believe that the game is a prequel where you commit crimes with Marston’s old gang. It gives me chills just thinking about it. Since the game is created by Rockstar, you can probably expect a third-person open world adventure game. I wish that their were more western games as good as Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Revolver. Both of which were developed here in San Diego. The time period could have so much potential if other studios would only take the risk.

Ubisoft Montreal

For Honor

This game takes players back to the time of Knights, Vikings, and Samurai coming out on February 14 . After a large natural disaster, these three groups fight for control of resources. Though there seems to be no stop in the fighting as a new enemy comes out known as Apollyon. This sword swinging adventure forces you to take a more tactical view on the game has a Dark Souls look to it. The only problem I have with the game is that I don’t have a clear idea on where the game will take us and how these groups will end their conflict.

Cuphead

After betting their life in a game with the devil and losing, Cuphead and Mugman must follow his every command. Now our two “heroes” must defeat tons of different bosses in a side-scrolling platforming shooter with an art style reminiscent of classic cartoons. When it was delayed to 2017, I was furious. I was excited for something new other than shooters this year, and am hopeful with all this time, that they live up to the hype.

Destiny 2

Not much is known about the sequel for Destiny other than it is coming out during 2017. When the original game came out, it was given low ratings because it felt that it wasn’t completed and didn’t meet up to the hype. Although they did fill in those gaps with some pretty good DLC, it was not worth the $60 dollar price on day one. I hope that with more than two years of experience with the game and their time with the Halo trilogy, I believe that they will be able to perfect the formula to make a great the sequel far better.

Sony Santa Monica Studio

God of War

This hardcore blood-filled series is coming back with a whole new look. Kratos now has a son that he must teach how to fight and survive on his own. In gameplay footage, we saw players going back and forward from our original hero to his son. Footage also shows less of the usual hack-and-slash and more of a strategic approach. Although it isn’t the iconic gameplay that players loved about the series, I guess I can see that he is slowing down because of his age age. Also, they went from Greek Gods to Norse Gods, and they have taken out much of the blood and gore that popularized the originals. Either way I am glad that this series is getting a reboot for the many that did not get to experience original three games and many more.

343 Industries

Halo Wars 2

The original Halo Wars was a great game for the few that played it. This real-time strategy game takes the player into the future with old characters such as Captain Cutter, Red Team, and new characters such as Atriox and Isabela. The story continues 27 years after the original game, when the heroes are faced with a new enemy called the Banished. With new multiplayer modes coming to the series as well, I will be on the edge of my seat until this game releases. The only problem I have with the game is that the graphics and art style they are taking is too bright. I know that they are trying to stay away from grays and boring colors, but they need to find the balance of both.
