Last week, Sage Creek High School announced that the gym will be under construction this summer as the school welcomes new courts for a growing sport right here at Sage Creek.
Admin reveals that we will be getting a new beach volleyball court in the 2026-2027 school year. This court will be built in the gym, replacing one of the regular volleyball courts.
Some students feel upset by the loss of a volleyball court, but supporters of this counter by saying how there will still be two regular courts and only one sand one.
PE teacher Coach Savage explains how this will actually help students in PE and with overall volleyball training and skill.
“Number one, it’s gonna teach you how to have better ball control, how to really move to get the ball. And number two, championship habits are built in uncomfortable situations, so nothing’s more uncomfortable than having some sand in your shoes most of the day,” he says.
Beach Volleyball players are excited to be able to now practice and play games at Sage Creek, arguing that it will help give them a greater advantage because they can now practice right here at school.
Coach Savage says that with the new sand court, “athletes would develop stronger legs, better core and deeper appreciation for the hardwood court”, while also adding that “the sand is just way better because grass is just too easy”.
Some teachers are concerned about sand being in classrooms, claiming it would make classrooms more dirty and cause extra work for custodians; however, people have been coming up with creative ways to prevent this. Some have brought up keeping disposable towels to wipe it off after leaving the court, or even putting shoe coverings on their shoes and disposing of them after.
Overall, Sage Creek staff, students and players alike are anticipating this new arrival of these courts, and are excited to see what new opportunities they bring to our school.
