On Saturday morning, Nov. 29, a Los Angeles high-speed pursuit ended at the hands of the Carlsbad Highway Patrol at 3:49 a.m. The suspect, wanted for assault with a deadly weapon, evaded Los Angeles officers at 2:30 a.m. in a four-door blue Mercedes Sedan, headed Southbound on the 405. The driver crossed several counties: Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego, into Carlsbad.
LA police pursued the driver before handing the chase to the California Highway Patrol in Carlsbad, who successfully stopped the car using strip-spikes to the wheels. The chase ended at 65 miles per hour on the I-5 near Poinsettia Lane. The freeway remained closed until 5:36 a.m.
The identity or condition of the suspect is yet to be released, but they are currently in custody in San Diego.
This chase comes after a previous pursuit on Sept. 19, which began in a deadly Carlsbad carjacking, where the suspect murdered a woman and stole her car. The suspect was pursued into Orange County, where he was killed in a shootout with Irvine police at a Laguna Beach In-N-Out.
