Q: How has the transition to Sage been?

A: It’s been really good. I was at Poway Middle School teaching PE, so it’s a little bit different going from middle school to high school. All my kids were 7th and 8th graders so close to the age of the 9th-grade classes that I have. I think that the biggest similarity is the staff at both schools being such a great and supportive staff [which] makes the transition really easy. And then just making an effort to get to know the kids too makes it easier to transition in.

Q: Is there anything you’re looking forward to for the rest of this year?

A: Just getting to know my kids really. Coming in at the end of the 2nd tri it’s hard for them to jump in with a new teacher and new expectations, so I think just getting to know them and what motivates them and building relationships with them, that’s why I teach, so I’m looking forward to that, just getting to know the kids.

Q: Do you have any kind of teaching or coaching philosophy that you like to run by?

A: I do, I think that’s what makes teaching so unique, is that even though we are all teaching the same subjects, everybody teaches in such a different style. I think my philosophy is just leaving people in better condition than I found them in. Rather that be physically, mentally or emotionally, just making sure that when they leave they are cable of more than they thought they were before.

Q: What do you like to do on the weekends when you are not working?

A: I like to go to the beach with my giant family, hiking, passes for the Zoo and Wild Animal Park. Just hanging out with all the kids at home.

Q: Do you have any fun facts about yourself?

A: I use to own a cross-fit gym. I stayed at home with my kids and that was a little bit too unregimented for me to use my degree, but still be able to take my kids to work with me. So, I bought a gym and just took them with me every day. They basically grew up in a gym until I moved back out here.
