Art
Art 1 is a two trimester class taught by Megan Herrick and Jillian Porter. According to the Art 1 syllabus, Art 1 is designed for the beginning to intermediate art student. Lessons focus on the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design. Within the first trimester, Art 1 students will gain proficiency in line, shape, space, form, value, color, and also identify texture, pattern, movement, balance, contrast, emphasis, rhythm, and unity. Within the second trimester, students create original works of art based on based on the principles of design demonstrated through projects, written work and a final portfolio. Media includes pencil, colored pencil, charcoal, pen, paper, chalk, watercolor and acrylic paint. Students will practice drawing, painting, and collage techniques.. The Art 1 curriculum will integrate the National Core Arts Standards.
Art 2 is a two trimester class taught by Megan Herrick and Jillian Porter. According to the Art 2 syllabus, Art 2 is designed for the intermediate art student. This course focuses on reviewing the Elements of art and Principles of Design. Students learn to apply this knowledge and skills to original works of art. Students use pencil, colored pencil, charcoal, pen, paint, and fabric. Media includes drawing, painting, graphic design, printmaking, sculpture, and fiber arts. Art 2 will provide opportunities for creative expression while increasing students’ artistic perception. Each unit is designed to develop aesthetic awareness and to connect and apply what is learned in the visual arts to other subject areas and careers. The Art 2 curriculum will include the five content standards for Visual Arts Education as well as the National Core Arts Standards
Art 3 is a two trimester class taught by Megan Herrick. According to the Art 3 syllabus, Art 3 is designed for the advanced art student. This course provides the artistically skilled student an opportunity to improve drawing and painting techniques and further develop expressive skills while creating original works of art. They will study a wide range of drawing and painting techniques as well as artists, movements, and history. The media used in this course includes watercolor, acrylic and oil paints, chalk pastel, charcoal, ink, pencil, and colored pencil. Emphasis will be placed on observational skills, learning new tools and experimenting new techniques. This course aims to increase student awareness of art forms in past and present cultures throughout the world. Each unit is designed to develop aesthetic awareness and to connect and apply what is learned in the visual arts to other subject areas and careers. The Art 3 curriculum will integrate the National Core Arts Standards.
