Now that winter is here, band, orchestra, and choir will be holding a winter concert today. The music department plans to showcase their talents at the Carlsbad Cultural Arts Center at 7pm.  For this winter’s concert, the music department will hold a silent auction on various items where all proceeds will go towards the music program.

The music department prepared for the winter concert since the beginning of the school year. Songs were hand picked by Juliana Quinones, director of the music department, right after their fall concert in October.

“I looked at the instrumentations, what we were strong in and some areas we could improve and I tried to feature those strengths but also challenge the students in a way that they can get better throughout the process,” shared Quinones on how the songs were meticulously chosen for the concert.

Quinones and the music department also shared that they are excited to continue a tradition they began last year.

“We started a tradition last year at our winter concert where everybody in band and orchestra sings together and this was before we had a choir,” Quinones informed excitedly.

Band, orchestra, and choir students who have been practicing since their last performance  also shared their experience with practicing after school and what they enjoyed most about it.

“What I look forward in after school practices is having fun with the people and becoming better,” shared junior Gianna Dessert.

Other students view practicing through a different lens.

“The best thing about practicing is trying to figure out everything and even if it’s not completely correct, when you come back the next day, it kind of stitches itself together and creates this masterpiece,” senior Natalie Perez added.

Students in the music department have been waiting for a long while to be able to showcase their talent.

“It’s going to have so many amazing things and the efforts of our parents that it’s a show you don’t want to miss,” Quinones ended.
