The original “Blade Runner” reshaped the sci-fi genre for years to come. It was released in 1982 and was directed by Ridley Scott, the sci-fi master himself. As time went on, the original “Blade Runner” became an nostalgic part of 80s pop culture. Now, 35 years later, a sequel called “Blade Runner 2049” was recently released.
“Blade Runner 2049” takes place 30 years after the original movie. The story follows Officer K, a blade runner― Ryan Gosling― who adventures into a mysterious case that leads him to find an older blade runner who goes by the name of Rick Deckard― Harrison Ford.
The film, as a whole, is incredibly well-made. It is a perfect movie and reminds you why you love going to the theater. The cinematography is mouth-dropping and beautiful to look at. Legendary cinematographer, Roger Deakins, provided a fantastic look at the world of “Blade Runner.”
The second most admirable thing about the film is the direction of the story. The story line is very unique and interesting with many themes of mystery and suspense. It takes a direction that you don’t see coming, which makes the story feel original and different in presentation.
Another outstanding component of “Blade Runner 2049” were the characters. Officer K is a really unique and emotional character to follow throughout the film. Ryan Gosling did a phenomenal job in his performance and brought great personality to his character. Harrison Ford returned to reprise his role as Rick Deckard, which he previously played in the original “Blade Runner.” He performed well and delivered more layers of depth and meaning to his character.
Overall, “Blade Runner 2049” is a outstanding film that provides mouth-dropping motion-picture, unique storytelling and engaging characters to follow. Most of this film contributed to the comprehensive remarkability, from the first frame to the last frame. Even though it is over two hours long, it is paced beautifully and is definitely worth the price of admission.
