Rising Storm 2:Vietnam Release Cover
Rising Storm 2
Platform(s): PC
Publisher:Tripwire Interactive
Cost: $24.99 Basic Edition, $29.99 Deluxe Edition
Release May 30, 2017
Red Orchestra and its two separate expansions, Rising Storm and Rising Storm 2, are some of the best first person shooters around. The recently released Rising Storm 2 takes place during the Vietnam War and is the most accurate representation we have had yet. Other major “mainstream” franchises such as “Call of Duty” and “Battlefield” have attempted to encapsulate the Vietnam War, but never stayed long in their respective titles. The gameplay is difficult yet rewarding. The significant lack of a heads up display and crosshair immerse you into the battlefield. Recoil is abundant and you can be picked off with one shot. One unique feature of this series is the role to be a Commander. The Commander class has the ability to call in mortars and airstrikes (depending on the faction) or speed up spawn times. The setting also provides a variety of vehicles for the United States Armed Forces. Hueys and Attack Helicopters patrol the skies, providing mobile reinforcements and powerful missiles respectively. To counter the powerful American fire power, the Vietnamese are granted squad tunnels to spawn closer to the control points. Overall, this game is a brutal yet rewarding experience that will keep you playing for hours.

Battlefield 1’s newest expansion takes place during the Russian Revolution and the Eastern Front of World War I. Promising over four new maps and 10 new weapons this is sure to be a great expansion of those who love the recent Battlefield entry. Even though historical accuracy is a questionable, with guns that never really entered the war, it still provides an excellent experience. The Revolution Edition allows you to get the main BF1 experience along with the Premium Pass. Both the base game and the Premium Pass are available now though it’s recommended to wait to get the Revolution Edition.
Star Wars Battlefront II
Platform(s): Xbox one, PS4, PC
Publisher: EA
Cost: $59.99 Regular Edition, $79.99 Deluxe Edition
Release: November 17, 2017
2015’s “Star Wars Battlefront” could be a considered a let down due to the lack of depth and content. Fortunately enough, DICE’s passion for the “Star Wars” Universe is pulling through. Already having released Clone Wars gameplay and confirming Galactic Civil War and Last Jedi content. According to DICE, there is around three times the content than the first Star Wars Battlefront game. Along with improved gunplay mechanics and space battles in the form of Starfighter Assault, Battlefront II is coming out to be a massive hit of 2017. This is projected to be a mass market success. So grab your lightsabers and blasters this is going to be a doozy.
Call of Duty World War II
Platform(s): Xbox one,PS4,PC
Publisher: Activision
Cos: $59.99 Regular Edition, $99.99 Deluxe Edition
Release: November 3, 2017
Hailed initially, as going back to Call of Duties World War II roots, Call Of Duty WW II is set to also be a mass market success. The Beta for the Console Edition currently just ended with the PC beta just around the corner. First impressions have been mixed, with the gameplay considered solid but some design choices are getting backlash from the community. Weapons range from the M3 Grease Gun, to the Mauser Kar98k. Not only that, the game presents a new generation to World War II. Though maybe not the most accurate experience, it is still a lot of fun.

Why only shooter games? I think articles like this could be much more interesting if we saw more variety in games. I’m not saying there can’t be any shooter games, just more games of other categories.

Thank you for your qualms. I did only do shooting games due to the fact many students may not know of lesser known indie titles or AA. Not only this, these are the most important AAA titles receiving releases. I will focus on improving variety
