Some Local Love, a Little Magic, and Lots of Books
Local Love Club and the Harry Potter Alliance Club have recently coalesced to host their semi-annual Book Drive this past January, collecting hundreds of books for the Carlsbad City Library. The clubs worked in tandem with Saint Patrick’s Catholic School in Carlsbad from January 9 to 13.
Junior Zareena Bokhari, president of Local Love Club, explained the intent behind her club and the book drive.
“[The goal is] to get involved in our community and help local organizations through volunteer work and donating. Through this, we hope to instill leadership and philanthropic values in our peers and help our community!” Bokhari expressed. “The book drive was organized with Harry Potter Alliance Club in order to help our local Carlsbad Library gain new books, making them available to anyone in the community.”
Bokhari also confirmed that the two clubs plan to host another drive and intend to make it a semi-annual event.
After coordinating with the City Library, the clubs allotted boxes to each English classroom for the collection of books. At the end of the week, all the books were gathered for counting and delivery to the library.
Between the Sage Creek and Saint Patrick’s communities, a total of 520 books were contributed for the Carlsbad City Library. January’s book drive has concluded, but it will be a recurring event, so keep an eye out for collection boxes in English classrooms!
Local Love club meets every Monday at lunch in room 2303, and the Harry Potter Alliance meets on Tuesdays twice a month in room 2303.
