Fashion is a big part of many students’ lives. To many students, it gives them the chance to express how they feel about themselves.
2025 brought new fashion to Sage Creek, letting students express themselves through clothing and jewelry.
One of the most popular styles seen over the years is the “clean girl” aesthetic, and it’s still trending today. It gained popularity in 2021 on Instagram and TikTok when influencers began focusing on self care and a natural beauty look.

The look usually consists of light clothing with denim shorts, cute tank tops and t-shirts, following a heavy minimalist style. Students can dress it up with cute cardigans and gold jewelry and dress it down with a light colored hoodie and some shorts.
This look gives off a “SoCal” vibe, perfect for beach days in Carlsbad. Anyone can build off of this style to make it their own. It brings the vibe of a healthy lifestyle while also offering pretty outfits.
Fitting into the bright-colored vibe, the coquette aesthetic has been rising in popularity. It was seen in the 2010s, but it gained mainstream popularity in 2020 due to TikTok trends.
Coquette has been all over online, and now people have started expressing it in their own outfits. Its tell-tale sign is bows decorating jewelry. The baby doll tops and ruffled skirts offer a cute, feminine look. And of course, the iconic pink pastel look is featured on tops and bottoms alike.
This look portrays a pretty vibe while adding its own swing to the look. It’s unique, cute and a great way to express a lighthearted, friendly personality.
While the coquette aesthetic is fairly new to the fashion world, streetwear has been here much longer.
Streetwear is an aesthetic that can be seen going back to the early 80s, although it still holds popularity today. It began with looks inspired from urban cities like LA and New York.
Despite streetwear being an older aesthetic, it has moved with the times. Now, people portray it with baggy jeans, band-inspired tops and a creative variety of jewelry. It’s an aesthetic that changes with the person based on what they like and how they see themselves.
These aesthetics are just a few of the many that students can portray. Other popular aesthetics include balletcore, cottagecore, preppy styles and the academia aesthetics.
Lauren Meek, a freshman at Sage Creek, explains how she feels about her personal style.
“I feel like we all have our very own aesthetics and fashion preferences,” Meek said. “I feel like I have a mix of a few that feel like me.”
Fashion is important to many students, being as simple as a fun outfit, or more personal to reflecting who they are as a person.
“Fashion can be used to help people with comfort and expression,” sophomore Natalie Householder said. “It’s important to have options for people so that people can have representation.”
2025 has brought lots of new trends to inspire and portray many personalities. Having these opportunities is great for students to express themselves and discover who they are.
