Netflix’s new summer movie has been popping with popularity, quickly becoming the most-watched film on the platform. “KPop Demon Hunters” is a golden watch that has flooded social media with catchy tunes — performed by a KPop group that hunts demons — and features boy bands mimicked by demons. Numbers don’t lie: everyone should watch this movie at least once in their lifetime.
According to the charts, it has been watched over 236 million times, becoming the most viewed movie on Netflix. This shocking number was just from the first 10 weeks of its release, and the numbers are still on the rise. Two reasons for this movie’s popularity are the captivating storyline and the contagious music that comes with it.
The main characters consist of three young girls who are in a girl band called the HUNTRIX. Rumi, Mira and Zoey are all demon hunters, and when they aren’t busy singing catchy tunes for the world, they might be fighting demons like the Saja Boys. The Saja Boys are the rival boyband of demons who somehow find themselves constantly competing with the HUNTRIX one way or another.
Even on TikTok, videos of people dancing to “Soda Pop” or hitting high notes with the song “Golden” are inescapable. Delilah Reyes is a junior at Sage Creek who watched K-pop Demon Hunters with her sister in June.

“I think it’s worth the hype because there was a lot of thought and care put into all of the music, character designs and art,” said Reyes.
Her favorite character is Zoey, one of the main three, who has an infectious attitude that sparks up the movie and its audience.
“Zoey is my favorite because she has such fun energy and her voice is underrated,” said Reyes.
Simon Medwar and his girlfriend Kayla Van Den Berk are both students who watched this movie in August.
“We both watched it together and I’d have to say that my favorite character is the really built guy in the Saja Boys,” said Medwar. “I think his pink hair is super cool, and my girlfriend is obsessed with the tiger because she loves cats.”.
The diverse roles make this a watch that is accessible to everybody, even if they aren’t the biggest fans of K-Pop.
“I would definitely recommend everybody to watch this at least once, or even check it out, so you know what the hype is about,” Medwar said.
“KPop Demon Hunters” has had a significant impact on the media, which has even reached students at Sage Creek. Whether it’s the genre K-pop that catches one’s eye or the wild storyline that lures viewers in, this movie is a must-watch and one that is worthy of their admiration.
