Since his inauguration Jan. 20, President Donald Trump has instituted tariffs on China, Mexico and Canada.
According to the BBC, “Tariffs are taxes charged on goods imported from other countries.”
After claiming that the word “tariff” is Trump’s favorite word in the dictionary, he has single-handedly started a trade war with several countries. “Tariff increases are largely paid for by consumers via higher prices, which erodes growth in net income thereby weighing on growth in real consumer spending,” Wells Fargo economists wrote in a recent report.
Only after causing the increase in taxes for consumer goods, has Trump suddenly announced his realization that US taxpayers will in fact bear the brunt of the enforcement.
“I just thought the word sounded smart and cool, I didn’t know that the economy would suffer,” Trump said. “I love the economy, I want to marry the economy. I cheat on Melania for the economy.”
