“The Outsiders”
Many students first read “The Outsiders” for school but soon fell in love with the plot after only a few chapters.
This book was written by S. E. Hinton when she was only 16, and it was first published in 1967 when she was 18. Despite how old this book is, it still manages to immerse readers in its intriguing plot. A few years later in 1971, she published the sequel to “The Outsiders,” “That Was Then, This Is Now.”
The Outsiders takes place in a small town that is divided between two different groups of people based on social class, Socs and Greasers. The main character, Ponyboy, is a member of a small but close gang of the Greasers.
The plot begins when Pondyboy and his best friend Johnny stumble into a terrible accident. They are both forced to run away from their lives and hide, although trouble still finds them.
“It is an important read that captures the struggle of being a teenager and the importance of connection,” Azaleia Hunter-Brown said. “It left me thinking about how we deal with life’s challenges.”
