Liam Payne, who captured the hearts of the world as singer and songwriter for 2010s hit boy band One Direction, has died after a three-story fall from his hotel in Argentina.
Despite the efforts of first responders, there was nothing they could do to save the pop star.
The Buenos Aires emergency services chief, Alberto Crescenti, spoke to La Nación in Spanish about the injuries sustained from Payne’s fall.
“Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life,” said Crescenti.
Crescenti continued that, “The team could do absolutely nothing.” Payne had already died once they got to the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the celebrity’s death are still unclear; however, there were reports from hotel staff that Payne was under the influence of drugs and was destroying his room before his death.
Despite many unanswered questions about the star’s passing, fans and celebrities alike were hit hard by Payne’s unexpected death.
Sage Creek junior, Trae Poole, has been a fan of One Direction and Payne’s music since she can remember.
“I found out about his death from my mom and was obviously very shocked and sad,” said Poole. “It felt very surreal and I thought it was a joke at first because he was so young.”
One Direction was a big part of many teenagers and young adults’ lives, and seeing a symbol of their childhood pass in such a tragic and unforeseen manner hit the generation hard. Listening to what was once nostalgic music will have a very different undertone for fans moving forward.
“I think this has affected everyone who has been a fan and it will definitely make listening to their music much more bittersweet now,” said Poole.
