The Sage Creek Dance Company radiates energy, passion and dedication from pep rallies to captivating performances. Every movement on stage leaves the audience in awe, showcasing a love for dance that runs deep within the team.
Sophomore Aashi Jalota, who earned a spot on the team as a freshman, reflects on how much the team means to her.
“I love the support from my team members and the friends I’ve made along the way,” she said, emphasizing how the sense of family helps the team thrive.
With 11 years of dance experience and training in styles like contemporary, jazz and hip-hop, Jalota is excited to grow even further in her second year on the team. Her dedication and early start as a freshman have positioned her as one of the team’s rising stars.
Another dedicated member is 15-year-old Sylvia Gibson, also in her second year with the team. Originally from Maryland, Gibson has been dancing since she was five and has trained in various styles, including jazz, lyrical and pom.
“My favorite thing about dance is all the dances we get to perform and learning new routines,” she said.
Gibson’s enthusiasm for dance and her excitement to perform make her a vital part of the team’s energy and success. Like Jalota, Gibson also joined the team as a freshman, and both sophomores continue to impress with their dedication and skill.
Senior Captain Lacey Clemons is leading the team this year. After moving to Carlsbad from the Bay Area in second grade, Clemons discovered her love for dance and began training at Carlsbad Performing Arts Academy.
“I’m excited to lead the team and make so many memories this year,” Clemons said.
With five years of experience and her second year in the company, Clemons is determined to guide the team to a successful season both on and off the stage. Her leadership is integral in keeping the team motivated and on track for the year’s performances.
Co-captain Kalista Medlock shares that same enthusiasm. A senior with five years of dance experience, Medlock is equally thrilled to be in a leadership role this season.
“I’m so excited to see what this year will bring,” she said.
Outside of dance, Medlock enjoys spending time with her friends, connecting with nature, and exploring her love for coffee. She looks forward to watching the team grow and supporting each member as they work toward their goals. Both captains have built a bond with their teammates, helping to foster a positive and encouraging environment.
Under the guidance of their dance teacher Sarah Eichler, the Sage Creek Dance Company’s connection runs deep. Eichler’s commitment to nurturing her students’ creativity is evident in every performance.
“I love helping students express themselves through dance,” Eichler said. Her passion and leadership have helped shape the team into the talented and cohesive group they are today.
With rigorous practices and a bond that grows stronger each day, the Sage Creek Dance Company is ready to leave its mark. As they prepare for upcoming performances, they’re excited to continue inspiring their peers and audience, taking every step, leap and routine with precision and passion.
