How The Girls Volleyball Team Remains Competitive
“We all support and love each other and because of it, it makes the team chemistry stronger”
For the girls volleyball team, teamwork is paramount. The friendships forged between teammates in practice are crucial when taking to the court against a rival school. After a tumultuous 2020 season, the team has rebounded this season and presently has an overall record of 22-13.
Junior, Reilly Goueth is a middle blocker for the team and is a proponent of the volleyball team’s competitive and caring atmosphere.
“I feel like our teamwork is great and we are always trying to better ourselves which is crucial,” Goueth said.
Winning the mental side of the game is just as important as winning the game itself for the entire girls volleyball team.
Junior, Emma Velchek, is an outside and right-side hitter and has been particularly influenced by the team’s commitment to mental health.
“We all support and love each other and because of it, it makes the team chemistry stronger,” Velcheck said. “There is a whole other side of volleyball that is very mental and without the full support of the team, it’s hard to work as a team and win.
Volleyball coach, Amanda Savage, has led the team for four years. She has helped to foster the team’s positive atmosphere and has emphasized using statistics to gain a competitive advantage over other teams.
”Our planning involves statistical feedback from our performance in practices or matches and video analysis and other tools that give us feedback,” Savage said.
Senior Zealan Ramirez is a defensive specialist and embraces the familial character of the team that Savage has created.
“I feel that this team’s teamwork is amazing,” Ramirez said. “It feels like huge a family on and off the court and we all work together to achieve our common goal of winning and improving. We all play for each other and I feel that this really helps us in games.”
