Taking A Deeper Look Into The New “Spiderman: No Way Home” Trailer
It’s finally here! Many certainly never thought it would arrive. However, sure enough, the first “Spiderman: No Way Home” trailer has arrived. Now as it may have been anticipated from the curtain of secrecy that surrounded it, it would seem that at least some of the crazy multiversal rumors about this movie are authentic.
Thanks to the illusions of Mysterio, Peter found his secret identity outed by J. Jonah Jameson, and the world now knows he’s really Spider-man. Glimpses of this are seen within the opening moments of the trailer, with Peter seeming to have a combination of celebrity status, and it’s negatively affecting his closest friends, MJ and Ned Leeds.
It should come as no surprise that Peter needs his secret identity back. Fortunately for Peter, he has fought side by side with a man who can help him regain his incognito lifestyle, Doctor Strange. Actor Benedict Cumberbatch returns as the beloved sorcerer for the first time since “Avengers: Endgame.”
However, he does appear to be a bit too eager to help Peter in regaining his secret identity. Doctor Strange casts a spell that erases the memories of everyone that knows Peter Parker is Spider-man, or perhaps as Peter puts it, makes it so Mysterio never went public with his identity.
Also seen in the trailer is Doctor Strange acting a little off. For one thing, he never should have agreed to help Peter regain his secret identity. But for another, it’s clear that something isn’t quite right in Doctor Strange’s home, the Sanctum Sanctorum since it’s snowing indoors.
Is Strange having trouble with his magic for some reason? Will this be one of the things we have to deal with in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?
But it seems to be the nexus event that either sends Peter into other corners of the MCU multiverse or allows other forms of him from other Spidey realities to start interrupting the Sacred Timeline.
And, of course, the biggest applause moment in the trailer comes with the return of Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus, one of the great big screen supervillains of all time. Is his “hello, Peter” directed at Tom Holland’s Peter Parker? Or is it possible that he’s addressing another Peter entirely…perhaps one played by Tobey Maguire; in the past Spider-man movies?
In any case, this scene looks like it’d occur right after an array of pumpkin bombs explode, which could mean that Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin, another classic Spider-man villain, have already teamed up by this point. Who else might be joining them in battle? There’s one other very dark shot within the trailer which some have interpreted as the Lizard, but it’s not a lot to go on. We’ll find out soon enough on December 17!
