A Big Night Not So Big Anymore

The Big Night: a night filled with food, fun, and funds, was cancelled.
The past two years, Sage Creek Athletics Department has arranged a Big Night for every sports season to raise money for athletics. Each sport in their respective season participates in a night where families attend and support the teams by purchasing tickets, dinner, and other snacks, such as baked goods and drinks from a team’s table. Every penny pooled from the dinner, along with the money made from each table, is awarded to the teams.
However, this past Big Night for the winter season has been cancelled.
“My coach didn’t say anything about it. I didn’t receive an email, nor was it on the homepage of Schoolloop,” Chloe McGovern, a junior on girls varsity, recalled. Another athlete also attested to this. “I didn’t even know the Big Night was happening. My coach didn’t mention it,”  Madisyn Goerlitz, a sophomore  on girls wrestling, confirmed.
Advertisement was lacking in promoting more people to attend. Typically, there are signs posted around school, email blasts sent out, and ads posted on Schoolloop; however, none of these were executed in boosting attendance.
“We had our first game that day at Pacific Ridge, so I wouldn’t have gone anyways,” Anthony Sun, a junior on junior varsity basketball player, stated. Not only was there a lack of promotion, but the first basketball game was scheduled that night as well, decreasing the flood of families.  Overall, the shortage of advertisement and a scheduled game yielded a  cancellation of an integral money maker for athletics.
“I don’t know how this will affect the winter sports. Hopefully, it’s not negative and we have enough money,” Bailey Daynes, a junior on girls varsity soccer, concluded.
