Swimming is a team or individual racing sport that uses the whole body. It’s a great all-around way to build fitness but keeps the impact stress off swimmers’ bodies. There are multiple events, including 100M freestyle, 100 IM, relays and more.

This year is the 5th year students can represent Sage Creek in the pool. Bobcats are hoping to have a successful year and go far in CIF.

Head Coach Agatha Brown shares her hopes for this season.

“This year our big goals are to move higher up in division and CIF,” said Brown.

Being a head coach for a High School sport can be fun to watch the team grow and change throughout the years. Brown believes that it is important to have diversity within the team.

“We have way more girls this year, which is great, and we are still looking for more boys,” Brown said.

Last year, the teams had an amazing season, while the girls ended overall 7th, and the boys ended in 9th for CIF. In order for the Bobcats to have another successful season, they will need to persevere. It will be a great year to expand the team in order to compete at a high level.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of a team and being able to contribute and work hard for one,” Nixon shared on being a new addition to the team.

Although swimming is somewhat an individual sport, it is still very important for the boys and girls to build a strong bond together. Nixon believes that good teamwork will lead to a good season.

“To me teamwork is very important even if we are competing on our own. It is great for us to form strong bonds with each other,” said Nixon.

While swimming includes a lot of athleticism, it is also a very mental sport. Like all sports, swimming is very physically and mentally demanding. Without a break swimmers are constantly on the go and are trying to improve, so it’s important to be able to balance everything out.

Student athletes need to be able to balance out school and sports. High School can be a totally different experience than club swimming. Freshman Eva Kurima shares her thoughts.

“It’s actually so much more fun playing for your school because you get to hangout with your teammates at school and at practice,” said Kurima.

Student athletes are an essential part of Sage Creek because many students participate in different sports. It helps prepare them for the future. Being a high school athlete teaches kids that other people depend on them. Students develop the self-discipline, motivation and leadership skills that they will need to succeed in building a purposeful life. Brown shares her views on the importance of balancing things as a student athlete.

“It’s important for swimmers to stay organized and stay on top of their schoolwork,” Brown said, sharing her views on the importance of balancing things as a student athlete.

Even though this year Sage has no divers competing, it will still be important for its Swim and Dive Bobcats to work hard in order to make it far. The swim team is a great way for students to represent Sage Creek High School if they are interested in taking on swimming.
