For the first time in four years, the bleachers of the Bobcat Arena were totally full as students poured in for a Pep Rally on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
The 55-minute assembly began at approximately 11:15 a.m. with music bursting from the speakers as students flooded the gym floor. After weaving through the crowd and squeezing into the stands, the students took their seats in their designated areas according to grade level. The gym was splashed with pink as students sported their gear for the Breast Cancer Awareness month spirit day and the festivities began right away.
The Sage Creek Dance Company kicked off the rally with a performance to Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel.” ASB then presented another Student Life video, wherein representatives Dakota Marshall and Amanda Danesteh interviewed students and staff at random, asking questions such as ¨What was the last lie you told?” and ¨Do you pee in the shower?¨
Following the video was a class competition of skeeball, where the grade level with the most points was crowned the winning team. From their seats in the bleachers, students tossed foam footballs towards the bins and baskets of various sizes arranged on the gym floor. The senior class beat the Juniors by about 50 points, and is still in the lead for the Class Cup.
Next on the rally agenda were the announcements for the upcoming Staff v. Student Flag Football Tournament on Oct. 21. ASB representative Jacob Uhl introduced the teams, followed by a brief comedic speech announcing his team members from math department chair and teacher, Jeff Simon.
Towards the conclusion of the assembly, students Bryce Buscher, Sterling Southerland, and Leanne McIntee took the mic to give a heartwarming speech about their friend and peer Kassandra ¨Kassie¨ Longoria, a senior who is currently battling Leukemia — her third round with cancer.
Principal Morales wrapped up the assembly around 12:10 before dismissing students by section to lunch, thus concluding this year’s first full rally.
