With fall in season, the time to start watching spooky movies is here. Whether it be a sweet family movie or a movie that can keep you on edge all night, a great Halloween movie can fill you with holiday joy. From classics to newer Halloween movies, here are the top Halloween films recommended to watch:
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Disney’s Jack Skeleton, also known as the Pumpkin King, accidentally stumbles across Christmas Land. Jack becomes fascinated with the idea of Christmas and is invested in learning more about it. This movie takes a creative spin on Halloween by mixing it with a spooky Christmas.
A classic 80’s film with dark comedy, mildly scary scenes, and of course, adorable furry Mogwais (just don’t get them wet!). A boy named Billy receives a Mogwai, named Gizmo, as a present from his dad, and disregards the rules for keeping him. When a Mogwai gets wet, they are no longer the cute and fluffy creatures. They transform and multiply into scary, troublesome gremlins. This further causes major chaos, as gremlins begin to take over the town.
As a young girl, Adelaide Wilson was traumatized by a mysterious evil in a beach carnival maze. When all grown up with a family of her own, Adelaide and her family return to the same beach she still has nightmares about. She has an eerie feeling that something bad is going to happen but when approached by her own family’s doppelgangers, that feeling is made a reality. This film was extremely well done, with a jaw-dropping ending that can get their audience thinking.
Tim Burton’s fantasy, stop-motion film is a great movie for all ages. It tells the story of soon-to-be husband Victor who is nervous about his wedding. Little does he know, his wedding would become delayed when Victor is brought to the land of the dead and meets the corpse bride. He is then forced to make the decision of who he wants to be with, and how to get back to the real world and with what sacrifices.
Six-year-old Michael Myers is put in prison for killing his 17-year-old sister. After fifteen years, while being transferred for a court date, Myers makes an escape for his home town and hunts down his next victims, on the night of Halloween.
A couple dies in a car accident and become prisoners of their house, haunting it for the rest of eternity. A new family moves in and the couple’s attempt to scare them off is unsuccessful. These attempts attract a troublesome spirit named Beetlejuice who begins to manipulate the families.

A team of three scientists lose their job and end up becoming “ghostbusters” to use their tech-smarts to fight against the powers of the supernatural. Ghosts and other creatures take over New York City and it’s now up to the Ghostbusters to put an end to it.
Every 27 years, a shapeshifting evil who can turn into and impersonate one’s worst fears, emerges from the sewer to hunt and lure children. A group of young outcasts discover something horrible occurring in their town when kids begin to go missing, including one of the kids in the group’s brothers. The kids are all forced to face their fears when coming into contact with the evil clown, Pennywise, in their attempt to defeat it once and for all.
A family visits their grandma’s house in Halloween Town. During their arrival, the kids come to realize that they descended from a family of witches and that their grandma’s town was for only supernatural beings. Conflict interferes in the town and it is up to Marnie to save it.

Max accidentally brings the coven of witches who lived in that house back to life. The only way he can prevent the witches from gaining immortality is to steal their book of spells: the mission extended throughout the movie.
