Apple has recently made three new phones that include their industry-leading face ID and their phone design without the home button. Their phone prices have already increased like crazy reaching prices up to a whopping 1449 dollars. The prices are very high for these new phones but some people will find that these are very useful for their day to day use. In this article, we will cover if the new phones are worth that preposterous price that Apple thinks people will really pay.
New Features and Breakdown
The funny thing is that many people are already buying the new phones. It is like some people have money burning a hole in their pocket. The fact that someone could pay up to 1449 dollars for a phone is just crazy. I can understand getting this phone if you have an upgrade program, where you just have to pay 50 dollars for the phone.
The new iPhone has a lot of new components that may make it appealing to some buyers, such as Animoji. Animoji is basically an emoji that moves with the movements that your head makes. This is called face tracking. Apple uses sensors that track the movement of your face making Animoji possible. Apple has also implemented facial recognition or what Apple calls face ID.
They did an amazing job with it making the iPhone have the ability to differentiate between millions of peoples faces. There were even studies done with identical twins and the iPhone was able to differentiate between the two. Even though this technology was also in the iPhone X, they have improved on it immensely.
The new phones sport apples new design. They do not have home buttons and they have a dual lens camera.
Cameras
These two phones have a very good camera that makes many professional photographers debate about which is the best.
One downside to the camera though, is when taking a picture in portrait mode, there is this effect that makes the person in the photo look almost like they are wearing makeup. Some photos taken with this camera look like they have been overedited. For some people, this may be a good thing. But, for people who want to take a natural looking portrait of a person, this will not be a good thing.
Apple also needs to improve with their overall photo quality. One of Apple’s largest competitors, Samsung, has implemented an aperture mode, helping with the lighting of photos immensely. An aperture is a device in cameras that lets in a certain amount of light. They can help a lot in low light photos, something that Apple has to still improve on.
iPhone Xs Max
This phone has a 6.2 inch OLED display which is considerably bigger than the smaller Xs. The bigger display could help people that have poor vision. This size may be a good thing for some users, but people with smaller hands may have trouble reaching some parts of the display.
Another problem is that it could be too big for a pocket. Here at Sage Creek, many of us have Fanny Packs that we could put a big phone in, but what about the people who don’t. The phone is very big and could seem to bulky and heavy to put into your pocket.
In the package, Apple will give you ear pods, a charger, a charging cable, stickers, an instruction manual and for the first time ever, a sim card pick tool.
Overall, it is a good phone but it is not the largest upgrade from the X but may be a very big upgrade for those who have an iPhone eight or older.
iPhone Xs
This phone is the same size as the iPhone X, coming in at 5.8 inches. This 5.8-inch display is an OLED display, just like the X. For most people, this size would be the most ideal because most people would prefer a smaller display due to better accessibility. This phone is exactly the same as the Xs max except for a smaller battery size and a smaller display.
Like the Xs Max, this phone also boasts the new ultra-fast A12 bionic chip, making the phone even faster than its predecessor. This iPhones battery comes in at 3,174 mAh which allows this phone to have about thirty more minutes of battery life than the iPhone X.
iPhone Xr
This phone is more on the budget-friendly side called. The Xr is not really an upgrade if you have the X. But, if you have an iPhone eight or older, it will be an upgrade in some areas.
Apple was boasting a “liquid retina display,” which they said was the first ever. Their display is really a 720p display which is subpar in this day and age. The display does have good color separation, but you won’t be able to watch high-quality videos like you can with the X, Xs and Xs Max.
Apples new iPhones have been setting a new standard for phones. But, a very big price tag comes with it.
This phone comes in way more colors than most iPhones but the colors do not seem as fine as the colors on the other new phones. The phone may also feel cheaper due to it being made out of cheaper materials.
But, this phone will be faster than the iPhone X, because it has the A12 bionic chip. The camera on this phone is sadly a single lens camera. The phone has a cheaper price than the other new iPhones starting at 749 dollars with 64 GB and goes up to 899 dollars with 256 GB. This phone is not at all bad and is definitely an upgrade from older iPhones.
Final Thoughts
Overall, all three of these phones are amazing phones. Particularly with the Xs and Xs Max, the question arises whether it is worth upgrading to these phones. Both of them are so expensive, but they do have some amazing features that many people will be wowed by.
I really hope Apple ends up making a profit, but I really want people to be informed before they go purchase a product with this price tag so they don’t end up wasting their money. If you have the X, I do not recommend upgrading at all. If you have an iPhone eight or older, upgrading to any of these three phones mentioned in this article would be a very good idea.
