“Hoop”coming? No, It’s Not a Typo

An annual tradition here at Sage Creek High School, it’s our version of a football homecoming. We celebrate a week every February filled with school spirit and a little healthy competition. But this year there is a new pre-game get-together, and a theme that’s a little “spacey.”

Starting February 6, the week kicks off with five spirit days:

Photographer: Elena Trask

Monday: Men in Black (fancy attire)

Tuesday: Support Our Troops (red, white, and blue)

Wednesday: “Out of This World” Fashion Disasters

    *Extended lunch, no advisory

Thursday: Athletes vs. Mathletes (nerds v. jocks)

Friday: Blackout or Hoopcoming Shirts

    *Pep Rally before lunch

Each of these spirit days are meant to tie into the universal theme, “Out of This World.”

“We really put a lot of emphasis on the spirit days and connecting it to the dance. We’re trying to make it all as one,” Junior ASB member Duncan Kelley explained.

Friday night kicks off the weekend with a tailgate at 2:30 p.m. in the academic mall before the women’s varsity basketball game against Canyon Crest Academy at 5:30 p.m, which is followed by the men’s varsity basketball game, also facing CCA, at 7 p.m. in the Bobcat Arena. Despite playing a hard fought game and losing to CCA last year, Sage Creek students have high hopes for our varsity men.

“I have no doubt in my mind that we will beat CCA,” Kelley affirmed.

Closing out the weekend is the “Out of This World” Dance, held in the Bobcat Arena. Senior ASB member Megan Bomgardner expresses that she’s looking forward to the dance this year.

“It’ll be really exciting. There will be a lot of cool decorations and good music. I’m hoping that there will be a huge turnout,” Bomgardner said.

The dance begins at 7 p.m. and lasts until 10 p.m. Tickets are available in the student store until February 10. See exact details on the Sage Creek Schoolloop page under the ‘Dance’ shortcut.

When asked to reflect on Hoopcoming as a whole, Bomgardner proclaimed, “It’s kinda cool because for all four years we’ve been working up to this. It is the first Hoopcoming where we have all four classes, so it’s an opportu

nity to show what we’re made of as a real high school, rather than the high school everyone perceives us as.”

Get ready, Bobcats, to show your spirit and make Hoopcoming week “Out of This World!”
