Macklemore and Ryan Lewis release yet another song dedicated to the people of the world about the problems we all face everyday. Macklemore released ¨Drug Dealer¨ during the national drug prevention week, known as Red Ribbon Week. The song follows Macklemore himself portraying a prescription drug addict going through withdrawal and the struggles of everyday living with the demons of drug addiction. Ariana DeBoo lends her voice for the chorus to compliment Macklemore’s slow and powerful rap.

From the first to the final verse, the song sends a powerful message about the horror of addiction by pointing out significant musical figures from Prince to Marilyn Monroe while also rapping about his own struggles he faced personally. “My drug dealer was a doctor, doctor/ Had the plug from Big Pharma, Pharma/ I think he trying to kill me, kill me/ He tried to kill me for a dollar, dollar.”

DeBoo sends the listener a haunting message with a more pain filled sounding voice expressing that the epidemic isn’t in the street, but in the pharmacies and doctor’s offices. Macklemore then jumps into another hard hitting verse talking about the opioid epidemic that is ravaging through America to this day. After, Macklemore concludes his song with a prayer to God to “grant [him] the serenity to accept the things [he] can not change. Courage to change the things [he] can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
