The Batman Movie Coming 2018: What We Know So Far

After the debut of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, Ben Affleck, who plays Batman, announced that he will be directing a solo batman film. The Batman  is still being worked on and is in pre-production, however, we do already know a few details about the film.

  1. Ben Affleck And Geoff Jones Are Working Together

Affleck will be working with Geoff Jones in this film, the head CEO for DC Comics and The DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Jones will help write the script as well as help Affleck with characters and with the story. With Jones’s knowledge of DC Comics and Affleck’s directing talents, this is going to be a pretty awesome Batman Film for the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

  1. A Script For The Batman Is Already Written

This means that it should be nearly finished with pre-production and should be ready for filming soon. Affleck also states that he really wants this film to feel right and comfortable for him and the character, which is a  smart strategy considering what kind of batman we now have in the DC Extended Universe. Affleck said the following:¨“Last night I spent (time) working on the script. I’m in full-on ‘trying to get it right mode’. It’s not the kind of movie that you can fail quietly at. You have to really be sure that I have something that I feel really confident about before we go forward.”

This New Batman was inspired from a comic book storyline called The Dark Knight Returns, which was written by Frank Miller in 1986. Miller´s composition is considered by many people as the comic book that changed Batman forever. It was also the first time that we saw Batman as a dark character and as an older, weathered Batman. This new Batman had his first appearance in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and will also be appearing in Justice League next year.

  1. Ben Affleck Will Be Directing The Batman

He has directed many Oscar nominated films such as Argo and The Town. In both of those films, he was the director, producer and main actor. So, this next film should be similar to his other films in terms of his jobs, responsibilities, and hours.

  1. Deathstroke Will Appear In The Batman

Deathstroke is a Batman villain in the DC Comics. His identity is Slade Wilson who made an appearance in seasons 2 and 3 of Arrow on the CW. He is a mercenary and an assassin who works for lots of different people while also having super strength. Affleck tweeted out test footage of Deathstroke, which shows off his full costume, which looks exactly like his costume in the comic books. Recently, Jones announced that Joe Manganiello will be playing Deathstroke and there are rumors circling around that he may also make an appearance in Justice League.

  1. The Batman Will Come Out Either 2018 Or 2019

Warner Bros. recently announced two undisclosed films to add to the DC Film slate. One of these films will come out October 5, 2018 while the other one will be released on November 1, 2019. Considering the fact that a script for The Batman is almost done and Affleck is already tweeting images of characters from his film, I wouldn’t be surprised if The Batman comes out early October of 2018.

The main reasons why I think it will come out in October is because it would make sense for the length of time it would need to take to produce and film this movie but also that the film would be coming out during the month of Halloween, which makes sense in terms of his character. So far, no official announcements have been made on the release date, however, I believe that the film will come out early October 2018.

  1. Commissioner Gordon Will Appear In The Batman

Of course, if you are going to do a Batman film, you have to include Commissioner Gordon. We have Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight), Benjamin Mckenzie (Gotham) and Pat Hingle (Batman, Batman Returns). And before you ask, no, I’m not including Batman Forever or Batman And Robin.

Now, we have J.K Simmons, who will be playing Commissioner Gordon in The Batman and in the upcoming Justice League movie.

That is everything that we know for The Batman. I’m pretty excited to see how this film lives up to The Dark Knight and Batman (1989). At least we can say we know one clear thing for sure: this film will definitely be better than Batman And Robin (Joel Schumacher. No, just no). Hopefully, we will get more news about the film this upcoming year and see what Affleck and Jones will bring in this film.
